Here in the west, we have a hard time allowing ourselves the vulnerability to seek guidance. For that reason, we find what we want to find to better help us justify our own thoughts, like the ever so popular "be your own teacher". It is completely out of context and the teacher speaking it had a teacher themselves and would never be as far along as they are without the guidance. We only have the capacity to hear what we want to hear, like a republican only watching fox news.
