Pray to God

I understand people praying for help, to save someone, to get them out of trouble. It’s relevant and seems pretty natural for most nowadays. Sometimes the prayers are answered, sometimes they are not. It’s not a question of why some are answered and some are not, the question is, are we praying to the same god for mercy that put us in the situation we need help out of in the first place? What am I missing? Who put us in the spot where we needed help? Who made the person we love become sick and needing to be healed? Who put us in a position of weakness and vulnerability, only to beg them to get us out of it?
